How Does It Work?
When the energy produced by your solar panels exceeds your consumption, Energy Texas will buy back the excess generation at market rate up to your energy charge. Market prices are updated in real-time at the 15-minute interval level in your Energy Texas MyAccount.
Energy Texas also offers surge pricing. Where we will buy back your excess generation at rates higher than your energy charge. We will alert you when this occurs.
Solar Buy Back can be added to plans with terms 12 months and higher.
Here's How to Be Eligible for the Solar Buy Back Program
- With your solar system fully approved, sign up with Sun Jacinto Solar Buy Back program to earn credit for the excess energy your system sends to the grid.
- Have a complete photovoltaic system, including solar panels and inverter, installed on your home.
- Once your interconnection agreement is approved, your TDSP will install a meter to measure the in-flow and out-flow of electricity to and from your home. This typically takes up to 60 days.
- After your meter has been installed and confirmed by your TDSP, Energy Texas will receive a notification when excess electricity is put onto the grid. Expect to see credits on your bill within 2-3 billing cycles.

Want to save your credits and apply them to future bills down the road? No problem! This ain't a use-it-or-lose-it situation. Your credits don't expire and will roll over month to month.
Customers with Existing Solar Panels
Already have solar panels? That's great! All we need to do is verify your PV meter with the first meter read. Once verified, we will start applying credits to your next bill if applicable.
